PHOENIX AS REFUGE
ABOUT PHOENIX AS REFUGE
Arizona has resettled over 70,000 refugees within its borders in the last four decades. The majority of these individuals end up in the capital city of Phoenix, where they face the extreme challenges and trials of resettlement and integration. Refugees can be found in numerous neighborhoods around the Valley, where they contribute greatly to their communities. However, the common citizen of Phoenix is most likely unaware of their contributions, if not completely unaware of their presence. Phoenix as Refuge (PAR) recognizes this gap between the refugee population of the greater community at large. Using portrait photography and story telling, PAR wants to increase awareness of refugees and their unique struggles and stories within the Phoenix community. Explore this website to read stories, see photographs, and learn more about how refugees are connecting to the Phoenix community. Phoenix is a refuge to so many people, and we believe every citizen has a part to play in that.
